As per the latest rules all marriages should be registered with the local Government Institution in Kerala. Following are the process to register marriage in Kerala. You need to submit an application at the Panchayath/Municipality/Corporation within 45 days of wedding. Submit 2 copies of the Marriage Registration form available at the local Government office. 3 sets of passport size photographs should be submitted along with the application.
Submit attested copies of School certificate/Birth certificate/Passport/Driving licence and the Marriage Certificate from the Church/Temple along with the application. The certificates should be attested by a gazetted officer. Signature of 2 witnesses are required. The couple and the witnesses should sign before the Registrar. The witnesses should not be close relatives. The registration fee is Rs.120.
If you are unable to register the marriage within 45 days, an enquiry report of the registrar and a fine of Rs.100 are required. This is the case if the marriage is registered within an year. If you are registering after 1 year, one more copy of the registration form is required and an application showing the reason of delay should be submitted to the registrar and the Deputy Director of Panchayath. The fine in this case is Rs. 250
Marriage certificate will be issued within 10-15 days of registering the marriage. LSG Kerala has introduced an initiative where by Marriage Certificates are available online now.
