Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple Trivandrum

Trivandrum003 Sri Padmanabha Swami temple is situated at East Fort, the heart of Trivandrum city. Sri Padmanabha Swami temple can be reached from Trivandrum Central Railway station within 1.5 KM. It is within walk-able distance from the East Fort Bus terminus. Sri Padmanabha swami temple is a famous Lord Vishnu temple. The name of Trivandrum in Malayalam is Thiruvananthapuram – it is derived from the name of main deity of the Sri Padmanabha Swami temple.

Sri Padmanabha Swami temple is considered as one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu.

 

Ancient rulers of Travancore were considered as Padmanabha Dasa – servants of Lord Padamanabha. Sri Padmanabha swami temple is still the main temple of ancient rulers of erstwhile Travancore. The temple is managed by the Kingdom of Travancore.

The biggest festival of Sri Padmanabha Swami temple is Laksha Deepam (1 lakh lamps) which is celebrated once  in 6 years. The main annual festival is Navarathri festival. Other important festivals are   Alpashy festival and Painkuni festival. Both these festivals end with Aratt – a holy dip in the sea for the deities.

 

Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple. Dravidian architecture of Sri Padmanabha Swami temple is very famous. The temple is around 2000 years old. Sri Padmanabha Swami temple is an important land mark of Trivandrum and a very famous tourist destination in Trivandrum.

Kerala State Film Awards 2009

Kerala State film awards for 2009 is announced.

Mammootty bags the best actor award for Kerala State film awards 2009 for the film Paaleri Manikyam. This film directed by Ranjith has also won the awards for best film and best actress award for Swetha Menon. Best director award is won by Hariharan for the film Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. M.T Vasidevan Nair won the award or best script writer for this film. Pazhassi Raja also won the awards for Manoj K Jayan and Padma Priya for the second best actor and actress categories.

Second best film is Raamanam directed by M. P Sukumaran Nair. Jagathy Sreekumar got special jury mention for the lead role in this film.

Best male singer for 2009 is Dr. K.J Yesudas for the film Madhya Venal and best female singer is Sreya Ghosal for the film Banaras. Best music director award is won by Mohan Sithara for the film Sufi Paranja Kadha.
