BSNL Launches WiMAX service in Kochi

Another first from BSNL. Following the launch of 3G service in Kerala, BSNL has today launched WiMAX service in Kochi. WiMAX – the advanced wireless broadband service can provide Internet speed up to 37 Mbps. BSNL has plans to roll out WiMAX to the entire Kerala state with its 900 BTS’s. Initially it will roll out to 450 BTS’s. WiMAX service will be available in Trivandrum soon.

What is WiMAX?

WiMAX is also known a 4G. It is a long range wireless broadband technology. Compared to WiFi, WiMAX technology can provide coverage within many kilometers. This new wireless technology can provide Internet bandwidth at speeds greater than wired broadband (DSL). WiMAX can provide higher bandwidth to mobile devices, laptops and PCs, and will further enhance IP TV.

BSNL is the first operator in the country to launch WiMAX technology, however BSNL has disappointed users by limiting the speed at 512Kbps for the unlimited plan.

TechnoCity Trivandrum expected to generate 50000 jobs

Technocity – the fourth phase of Technopark is expected to generate around 50,000 direct jobs and around 2 lakh indirect jobs. Technocity is planned to be a complete IT city, spread across 500 acres, which includes not just space for IT/ITES companies, but also residential, commercial, hospitality, medical and educational facilities supporting the IT population.

Government of Kerala has completed the formalities for acquisition of land for the Technocity project. Up on the cabinet approval for the price of land, the acquisition was completed by the Revenue Department. The land is spread across Pallipuram, Melthonnakkal, Andoorkonam and Veiloor villages in Trivandrum district.

Government of Kerala has already finalized the rehabilitation package for the evictees of Technocity project area. Technocity project is planned as a self-dependent satellite city  of Trivandrum that would not strain the resources and infrastructure of the city.

Technocity project would also aim for investments in biotechnology, nanotechnology, high-end manufacturing and R&D. The project will be developed through multiple special purpose vehicles (SPVs) in association with private participants as well.

Since the major obstacle of land acquisition is now over the Technocity project will be completed in a fast pace. Technocity project is coming up at Pallipuram, suburbs of Trivandrum city and within around 10 Km from the Technopark. Once completed, Technocity will become the largest IT city in India.

Nokia launched low cost 3G Mobile – Nokia 2730 Classic

Nokia announced their lowest cost 3G enabled phone in India. The latest Nokia 2730 Classic phone with 3G is available for around Rs. 4,500. The phone supports 3G with maximum download speed of 384Kbps. It has full html browsing to offer better customer experience.

With the recent launch of 3G service by BSNL, this affordable phone from Nokia will help more customers to enjoy latest features. This phone can also be used as a data modem, allowing laptops and PCs to connect to Internet in 3G speed with the data cable shipped with the phone.

The Nokia 2730 classic phone supports around 3.5 hours talk time on 3G network and  around 430 hours standby time on 3G network. The phone weighs around 88 grams. The memory of the phone can be extended to maximum 2GB with microSD card. It has 30MB internal memory as well. The phone has 2 Mega pixel camera with 4x digital zoom. It supports video recording in 3gp format. The Nokia 2730 Classic 3G phone supports email with attachments.

At an affordable cost below 5000 and the already available 3G service from BSNL, the Nokia 2730 classic 3G enabled phone will enable more people to access advanced technology.

BSNL Launched 3G service in Trivandrum

As part of new initiative of BSNL, 3G mobile service is launched in Trivandrum. BSNL customers can enjoy high speed Internet, Video calling and Live TV in 3G enabled handsets in BSNL 3G network. Publicly owned BSNL and MTNL are the only telecom operators in the country offering 3G service at present.

In Trivandrum, city area is covered under 3G service now. It is being rapidly rolled out to suburban areas of the city. BSNL has around 180 towers in the Trivandrum area. Out of these almost half of the BTS’s are now 3G enabled.

To enjoy 3G one need a 3G enabled handset. Recently Nokia launched a low cost 3G handset Nokia 2730 classic at around Rs. 4500. All Nokia E series phones are 3G enabled, and most of the N series phones are also 3G ready.

How to activate 3G on prepaid connection

To activate 3G on prepaid connection send an SMS M3G120 to 53733. You will receive an SMS from BSNL. Send the confirmation SMS M3G120Y to 53733. The initial plan will be 3G general 120. To enjoy reduced call rate migrate to 3G promotional plan by recharging with Rs. 98.

How to configure your mobile for 3G Internet settings

Once 3G is activated send an SMS in the format <handset make> <model> to 58355. For example if your mobile is Nokia E63 send the SMS NOKIA E63 to 58355. There should be at least Rs. 50 balance in your account to receive the settings successfully. Once the settings are saved high speed Internet can be enjoyed on the mobile or connected through data cable with the laptop or PC.

BSNL 3G Tariff

3G tariff is available in the Kerala BSNL Website. in 3G promotional plan, call charges are Rs 0.30 to local BSNL numbers and Rs. 0.60 to other local numbers. Video calls are charged at Rs. 0.30 for local and Rs. 0.50 for STD to BSNL numbers.
