Onam Week Celebrations at Trivandrum 2010

This years Onam week celebration commences at Trivandrum on 22nd August 2010 with an inaugural function at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium. Kamal Hassan is likely to be the chief guest at the inaugural function. Chandrasekharan Nair stadium will be the hub of Onam week celebration as with previous years. Kanakakkunnu Palace will be the focus of the celebrations with six venues where cultural programs and performance of traditional art forms of Kerala will be performed. Onam week celebration at Trivandrum will come to and end with a colorful procession on 28th August 2010 evening. There will be a food festival and a trade fair at The Suryakanthi grounds. The other venues of the cultural programs include Poojappura Maidanam, Theerthapada Mandapam, Sreevarahom, Akkulam, VJT Hall and Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan.

Main attractions of Onam week celebration includes Classical music and dance events, Ganamela, Kathaprasangam ,  Kalaripayattu and various folk art events. Apart from the official Government sponsored events, there will be trade fairs conducted by various private institutions at different locations in Trivandrum. Most of the famous restaurants and hotels in Trivandrum are participating in the food festival at Suryakanthi grounds.

Square One Talents, managed by an all women team is conducting a trade fair at Pattom, Spring Garden Buildings. This includes shopping festival of garments as well as a food festival. The food festival at Square One Talents offers ethnic food items and delicacies.
