Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) is the first airport in India built through the Public Private Partnership model. The airport is designed in the traditional Kerala architecture and has state of the art facilities. Cochin International Airport is situated at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam district. The airport has got easier access to National Highway and is situated between the Alwaye and Angamali railway stations. CIAL was inaugurated by the President of India on 25th May 1999 and inaugural flight took off on 10th June 1999. The airport is owned and managed by the public limited company, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL). The airport has Cochin Duty Free, the biggest duty free facility in Kerala.
